Skin rejuvenation can be a excellent method of natural facial rejuvenation for men.  Skin rejuvenation can be accomplished with Lasers, Chemical Peels, or mechanically/microneedling.  An active lifestyle with exposure to sun and wind can leave skin wrinkled, discolored, and aged.  Resurfacing procedures can be tailored with different degrees of treatment with more and less downtime.   Men have thicker skin than women with more hair follicles which allow for quicker healing.  Therefore, more aggressive resurfacing procedures can be done on men with quicker healing.  The right resurfacing procedure can leave the skin refreshed with improved skin tone, texture, color, pore size with fewer fine lines and wrinkles.

Laser Resurfacing

Fractionated ablative resurfacing is a newer method of ablative resurfacing where skin is removed using a Fraxel Re:Pair CO2 (carbon dioxide) laser which delivers energy to the skin in tiny, microscopic units or “dots”. By treating in a pixilated fashion, enough of the body’s own tissue is spared to allow faster healing with fewer side effects The fractionation allows the Fraxel Re:Pair laser to penetrate much deeper into the skin (epidermis, superficial/papillary and deep/reticular dermis) than the fully ablative alternative. It can also be used off the face to blend the face and neck and avoid any sharp transitions zones between treated and untreated skin.

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) or Photofacial is a broad band light device which utilizes multiple wavelengths to treat skin tone, texture, color, pore size, and fine lines and wrinkles.  Studies show that IPL treatments alter the DNA of your skin towards a more youthful genomic pattern.

Chemical Peel

Chemicals can also be used to remove skin skin with different degrees of treatments:  deep or superficial.  Some popular examples of chemical peels include:  Gylcolic Acid (superficial), TCA (medium depth), and Phenol (deep depth).   Chemical peels rejuvenate the skin by removing old, dead skin and superfical layers of the skin.  New collagen is then produced in a process called collagen remodeling.  Benefits of chemical peels include improved skin tone, texture, pore size, color, and fine lines and wrinkles.
One very popular chemical peel in my office is The Perfect Derma Peel.  This medium depth peel has the advantages of phenol (deeper peel) in a formulation that minimizes downtime.  It is safe for all skin types.  It is very simple to apply and the post peel instructions are clear and easy to follow.  The Perfect Derma Peel has all of the necessary ingredients popular in a wide variety of chemical peels:
  • Glutathione
  • Kojic Acid
  • TCA
  • Retinoic Acid
  • Phenol
  • Salicylic Acid
  • Vitamin C

Microneedling/Dermapen

Microneedling is a time tested skin rejuvenating concept which has recently regained widespread popularity with improvements in technology.  Microneedling works through a process of collagen remodeling where skin is finely and precisely punctured with microneedles and new collagen forms in these zones of injury.  Microneedling works in a similar way to fractionated or pixilated lasers where enough native tissue is left in tact to allow for rapid healing and natural results.
Microneedling can be used to rejuvenate skin and improve skin tone, texture, pore size, color, and to treat fine lines and wrinkles.  A series of treatments are recommended to achieve optimal results.  To maintain youthful skin, microneedling can be done periodically as part of a skin care program to encourage constant turning over of the skin through continuous collagen remodeling.

Microneedling works best when combined with a hyaluronic gel interface to infuse hyaluronic acid into the skin during treatment.  Post treatment a growth factor based skin care regimine provides all the necessary growth factors for optimal healing and result:  Regenica Repair Complex.
