Facelift/Necklift for Men
Facelifts in men pose unique challenges and demand precision with incision placement, skin redraping, and operative technique. The male hairline and beard must be carefully considered in planning a facelift. Since men wear their hair short, hiding a facelift incision can be difficult. Furthermore, a receding hairline or male pattern baldness make incision placement difficult. Finally, the beard comes close to the ear but there is a non hair bearing segment of skin separating the ear from the bearded skin of the face. Trying to conceal the incision by moving the incision too close to the ear can move hair bearing skin unnaturally close to the ear and give an unnatural appearance.
Because of the receding hairline or male pattern baldness, browlifting is not frequently done in male patients. Fortunately, the male brow is ideally straight and not arched making a browlift unnecessary in most male patients. Because hair follicles require more blood supply, careful control of bleeding in male facelifts requires meticulous technique and experience with male facelifts.
